Warcraft – The Movie

I’ve already covered a TV show starring Travis Fimmel,
so why not a movie as well? So, they took a series of strategy
games and decided to put adapt them into a movie. Doesn’t sound
like it would be very fun, but it is. They turned the MMO part
into the setting, the main plot of the strategy games is still
pretty much the plot of the movie and they added Travis. Do this
with any strategy/MMO series and it’s a win.
I’ve heard a lot of negative comments on this movie, people
complaining the movie doesn’t stand on its own and it’s difficult
to watch and keep track of everything going on. Well, that maybe
because this movie is made for the fans of the series. If you’ve
spent ages playing this game you’re going to chuckle when you see
and hear a murloc, you will be at awe when you see the different
colored roofs in Stormwind, and I don’t care if you are a fan of
the series or not, how can you not love something that has Travis
freaking Fimmel in it? My obvious man-crush aside, this movie
really has a lot to offer in terms of story development, beautiful
visuals, character growth and action. Who didn’t have a nice laugh
at the epic duel between Lothar and Blackhand? And for those of you
complaining about Garona being a discount Gamora, bear in mind that
Garona has been around since the first Warcraft game. Besides, who
isn’t a fan of Paula Patton in green make up? Don’t even get me started
on the oversized armor of the footmen that sounds ridiculous and yet
works very well visually. The CG is spot on as well and really does
wonders to make the orcs seem more like sentient beings rather than
animals that developed a language. All this being said I do have my
own issues with the movie. The way Fel is presented to us and what it
actually is in the movie world. The whole Golem thing feels forced and
out of place. The fact that King Llane has facial expressions rivaling
the above mentioned Golem. There are few other minor things that bug me
but nothing all that important. While other people dislike the fact that
the movie is made for the gamers my biggest complaint is that it doesn’t
resemble the games more. I would’ve love to have seen more spells and
some WoW classes implemented into it. Can you imagine in the midst of
the battle just having a gnome rogue going around poking and slashing
at orcs or a warlock casting fear while surrounded by 30 footmen? That
would be fun ^.^
Anyway, if you into this movie without any previous knowledge
of the series and expect to have fun, you might, but you’d have
to be very open minded and if you’re a series fan it’s going to an
amazing experience. I honestly hope they get around to making a sequel,
I’d love to see baby Thrall growing up with humans and forming the
Oricsh Horde although at this point that seems like wishful thinking.
Oh well, guess we’ll just have to wait and see. That’s it for me everyone,
see you ^.^
