Vikings – My new obsession

By the title you might’ve guest what my last few weeks
have been all about. Ragnar Lothbrok and his adventure into
the unknown. From farmer to Earl to King all within a few short
years. The best part about this epic Viking saga? Travis Freakin’
Fimmel. The man is a shiny golden god sent to make our lives wonderful.
I’ve been avoiding this TV show for a long time, hearing stories about
how it trumps Game of Thrones as the best sword clashing series out
there. I couldn’t believe it and the whole concept of Vikings while
interesting, didn’t really appeal that much to me, certainly not enough
to blow over 30 hours into watching it. So after years of avoiding
it, in anticipation of the new season I decided to finally sit down
and watch it. I have been an ignorant ass for years. Avoiding something
so amazing is not something smart people do, but I’ve finally seen the
light, watched all of it and am ready to give a proper review of it.
So you like swords, sex, betrayal and a rags to riches story? Well you
are going to love Vikings, it has all of it and then some. One of my
favorite thing in a video game/movie/TV show is the time skips between
big events. It allows for major changes that are always fun and Vikings
has quite a few of them. Ragnar starts off with one son in his pre-teens
and by the time of his death has 4 sons in total all over the age of 18,
that’s a lot of time passing. Along with this, another thing this series
features is a lot of satisfying moments as karma truly shines in Vikings
which leads to some of the most epic scenes in a show I’ve ever seen. The
face of Northumbria’s king as he sees the entire Great Heathen Army, for
example. “What about prophecies?” I hear you ask, well no need to worry,
Vikings has your back on that too. There are an abundance of prophecies
given to our characters by The Seer all coming true in one way or another.
This all seems great and everything, but no good sword and shield TV show
is without battles of the epic variety, Vikings are no exception. Huge
battles spanning several episodes, genius tactics and fun plot twists
all around. There is absolutely no reason for you not to go and watch it
if you haven’t already. At this point I would usually get to my complaints
about it, and the only one I have is the fact that at some of the huge
battle shots it seems like some of the Vikings are doing more pushing around
like a mosh pit rather than shoving axes into each other and that’s
really nothing shocking with the scope of the TV show and the battles
themselves, but when something like that is the only bad thing I can
say about a series it probably means it’s doing stuff right.
To conclude this review when you take swords and axes, add some
historical events, sex, betrayal and Travis Fimmel you can’t go
wrong. Seriously, try to imagine all of these things together and
tell me you get a bad outcome. I knew it, you can’t. Anyway, that’s
it for me, I’m off to re-watch King Aelle’s death a few more times ^.^
